Financial Counselling

Financial counselling can assist anyone who is currently experiencing or at risk of experiencing financial problems regardless of income or assets. Financial counsellors act on your behalf, without any conflict of interest, in order to help you re-stabilise your finances.

Some of the things a financial counsellor can help you with are:

  • creating and maintaining a budget that suits your needs and financial situation
  • negotiating with creditors on your behalf to create realistic repayment plans and discuss debt reduction or consolidation
  • providing information on bankruptcy and helping decide whether it is the right option for you
  • putting in place strategies to minimise the risk of further financial problems in the future.

Financial counselling is a free service. We have financial counsellors throughout Sydney at ParramattaFairfieldBankstownManly Vale, and Gosford. To make an appointment to see a financial counsellor please contact us. No referral is needed.

Gambling Help Financial Counselling

Gambling Help Financial Counselling (GHFC) is a service provided by a financial counsellor who has completed additional training in managing gambling-related financial problems. A GHFC specialises in helping those who find themselves in financial hardship as a result of their own or a loved one's gambling. This is a specialised area of financial counselling, so please let us know when you are booking the appointment whether gambling has impacted your financial situation so that we can assign you the most relevant counsellor.

If gambling is also a concern for you then you can talk to one of our gambling help counsellors. The gambling help counsellor will work with the financial counsellor to help you manage your gambling so that your financial situation can be improved.

How the first appointment works

1Bring in any paperwork relating to your financial situation. This can include bills, Centrelink statements, pay slips, insurance details, superannuation details, and any unopened mail. Your financial counsellor will conduct a complete review of your financial situation and invite you to speak about what's on your mind and the circumstances that have led to your financial situation.

2The information you have provided will be used to create a money plan. The money plan shows how much of a surplus or a deficit you have at the end of your pay period. The financial counsellor will use this to identify your income and expenditure.

3Once you have a money plan, the financial counsellor will help you decide how you want to manage your money and debts. They will explain your options and help you to decide which option suits you best.
